Conference on Household Finance in Athens

The Center for Financial Studies at Goethe University Frankfurt is organizing a conference on Household Finance on the 23rd and 24th of September at the King George Palace Hotel in Athens/Greece.

The objective of the conference is to present state-of-the-art empirical research and empirically motivated theoretical research on household financial behavior over the life cycle, and on how this is influenced by other choices, government policies, and the overall economic environment.


The main research areas of the conference are the following:

  • Patterns of asset and debt behavior over the life cycle
  • Financing retirement and the demographic transition
  • Consumer indebtedness, including mortgages, and financial distress
  • Behavioral approaches to household finances
  • Financial literacy and the role of professional advice
  • Trust, subjective expectations, pessimism, and portfolio choice
  • International comparisons of household finances using micro-data

The conference will include a panel session on the Greek financial crisis and its implications for financial behavior and financial markets.
