A Comprehensive Model of the Financial Centre

Partnership with Emerging Financial Centres

Frankfurt Main Finance has developed a comprehensive model of the financial centre. It comprises all the financial services offered by local companies and service providers and functions as a navigator for the relevant database, “Frankfurt – Partner for Emerging Financial Centres”.
The idea is to grasp the development goals of contacts in emerging financial centres, to analyse the status of that development and to determine areas of action accordingly.

In collaboration with the State of Hesse, the City of Frankfurt, FrankfurtRheinMain and Frankfurt Economic Development, Frankfurt Main Finance will be promoting Frankfurt’s financial services worldwide. The database “Frankfurt – Partner for Emerging Financial Centres” will serve as a core element of the type of cooperation we can offer emerging financial centres on future delegation tours. Particularly in the case of small and middle-tier companies, an entry in the database, is an easy way to gain access to new customers in emerging markets.

Model for explaining the financial centre

For purposes of structuring and locating services and products, Frankfurt Main Finance has developed a model showing the financial services available. Database entries are categorised according to the model’s different segments. The model of the financial centre covers the key players and displays their business models in terms of their respective value creation chains as well as their relationships to other local players.

In the middle stands the central bank as a source of liquidity, along with regulation and consumer protection, which serve as the system’s essential “protective shield”. Grouped around these elements are the main market segments, which are:

  • Private & Consumer Banking
  • Government & Development Finance
  • Corporate Banking
  • Real Estate & Mortgage Financing
  • Asset Management
  • Investment Banking, Trading & Capital Markets and
  • Insurance

These market segments in turn avail themselves of a series of supplier services, shown in the outermost circle. These services span everything from research and development to payment transactions to security deposits. Last but not least, the model also captures support infrastructure, such as IT infrastructure, education and training, and transport.

The database is structured in three dimensions and shows companies, services and the degree of internationalisation. Frankfurt financial centre firms can register with the database in order to tap business potential in emerging markets financial centres long-term. Interested parties may obtain access data for registering at the Frankfurt Main Finance office or here.

The database will be available via the Frankfurt Main Finance Website in the second half of 2011.
